Restoring the Sun Inn

A remarkable
collection of documents in the Moravian Archives provided a thorough and
detailed source of information, including the original building plans,
complete “wastebooks” (guest
registers), ledgers, diaries etc. This abundant treasure of material made
possible the detailed accuracy of the building’s restoration and gave an
authoritative accounting of its distinctively rich history.
Translation and study of these early Moravian documents made it possible
not only to restore the Inn’s structure and accurately place its contents,
but also to reconstruct its fascinating history and vital role in the
community.
Continuing study of
these records provides the basis for educational projects, menu planning,
costumes and decorating.
The Sun Inn as a Community Building
The restoration of the historic Sun Inn was made
possible in large part by a grant from the commonwealth of Pennsylvania,
which designated that the Inn serve as a human resources center in
Bethlehem. Its facilities are available for use by schools, businesses,
social and service organizations, and private parties.
Arrangements for such functions must be made with the innkeeper. Please call 610-866-1758.
